With weather that had heavy snow showers and bright sunshine, the below freezing temperature and strong wind were always present!

York consolidated their leading position in Yorkshire League 1 with a solid win by 17 points to 28 at a bitterly cold Moortown. They had first advantage of a strong wind and opened their account after 15 minutes with a Jon Dawes penalty but Town hit straight back with some slick handling which created space for wingman Tom Moorby to score in the corner. The conversion attempt fell well short into the wind.Moortown were beating York at the breakdowns which were strictly controlled by the lady referee and it took a try from Sam Potrykus to restore the York lead. His sheer pace saw him burst through in the centre for a great score. Dawes' conversion attempt floated wide but he made no mistake with his next penalty to give York an 5-11 interval lead which seemed likely to be insufficient given the conditions.

York’s lead was increased though when Joe Maud touched down under a driving maul following a 15 metre ‘march’ to the Moortown line followed by a successful conversion. 5-18

York were then forced into a number of changes with George Davies on for Ian Hessay, Marc Benson for Luke Stockton and Dan Coe for Steve Johnson. Gareth Singleton forced his way over the line after some good handling in the York backs and Davies added a neat conversion. Coe picked up a yellow card which brought Johnson back into action and Town used their advantage to put Tom Moorby over for his second try. York grabbed another penalty but Town had the last word with a 15-man pushover try in the final minutes. It was a good performance by York whose solid defences were given a stern test by the talented Moortown outfit.
