The following appeal has come from Tom Boyle on behalf of North Yorkshire Referees Recruitment:
I arrange the Sunday appointments for North Yorkshire and I have already received an email from Ripon RUFC for their fixtures. We did have a shortage of appropriate referees on Sundays last season even when games were still covered by a society referee.
To ensure we have better referees we need the clubs to actively promote their members to the society. The main target is younger referees who may still be playing on Saturdays at 1st team level or are injured. Those in the 16-23 age bracket have the time to go a long way as a referee and the referee society can create a pathway for them.
Yorkshire as a whole does have a vast number of highly skilled referees from ex players and former super League officials. There is also a growing trend in 'non players'. We are looking for anyone to join but the key area is younger referees who have the fitness and potential to develop and who can start by doing Wednesdays, Sundays (whatever they can commit to) and be given the appropriate training to do so.
