York Colts player Steele Barker, has recently been selected as an England Academy player. This follows time with the ERDPP and Yorkshire Carnegie colts.
Steele began playing rugby with York RUFC at the age of 5 and has been a reliable and consistent presence throughout the age groups. His rugby so far has seen him make appearances at Twickenham, county finals and premiership grounds around the country. He is a back five forward who is destructive and creative in equal measure (has played full back!!) who clearly enjoys the physicality of the game and who has the strength and speed to match his skill in this area of the game.
He has subjected himself to lots of high intensity training over recent months which has taken him from being a great player to an outstanding one. It has also taken him, to an extent, from the club; however Steele has always loved being around York RUFC and has a group of friends here who respect and admire him.
He is a true team player and sportsman, and always plays with discipline and respect. We must wish him well on his rugby journey and ask that as and when the opportunities arise, he keeps his skills sharp at Clifton Park.
