Playing against Harrogate 2's proved difficult but rewarding!

York vs Harrogate 2s – 5th November
On a crisp Sunday afternoon, York Women took on their most challenging game yet against Harrogate 2s. With Harrogate already having a competitive first team, York knew that this game would be tough both mentally and physically and it was certainly like nothing else the new players had experienced so far this season. The first half was intense, with York dominating in possession and Creedon was the first to cross the try line for York, a great start for the winger’s debut and hard earned after two cross field kicks evaded her grasps. The try came from a confident offload by Penny to Howells who was then presented with a simple two vs one pass to Creedon who scored with ease. Harrogate eventually worked their way to score after several phases from the forwards and with a conversion, brought the score to 5-7 to the visitors. The first half produced several injuries on both sides and the physicality of the game was evident by half time. However in the spirit of the game, Harrogate lent us a few players so that we could continue playing 15 a side.
The second half saw York come to life with Seagrave as the first to score, cutting a hard line through the defense from full-back – batting through several defenders in the process. Second to cross the line was Etchells at open-side who displayed fantastic support lines and put huge pressure on the opposition during the breakdown for the full 80 minutes. The last try of the first half came from a well-timed pass by the fly-half to Howells who was later awarded Back of the Match for consistently running great lines, breaking the defensive line and making some huge tackles. Unfortunately, York were also to concede twice more both from poor organisation in defense and Harrogate’s substitution of fresh players in the last ten minutes of the game. The final whistle blew and the score stood at 19-20. York were victorious once again.
Thanks Harrogate for a fantastic game, we can’t wait for the rematch!
