Moortown 2’s 10 v York 2’s 24.
A grey day in North Leeds, produced a very exciting contest. With Moortown pressing certainly giving us a lesson at the breakdown and collision areas; putting York on the back foot as well as dominating territorially thereby scoring an early unconverted try after 6 minutes. Freddie Smith’s big hits kept us in the game. Then suddenly the game changed and we started to clean opponents away and became dominant at the breakdown. The scrum began to work and go forward with the ball at last. Boz Boswell then produced a strong drive towards the line on the 40 minute mark for a try - a good time to score. Halftime came and turning around at 5-5 gave us an impetus.
Now we were able to give our backs some decent possession, our makeshift No 12 doing a great job opening up the defence - we thought we had Beauden Barratt playing for us! Will Atkin supporting finished off the break. Then Ben Bernard picked up on our 22m line with Alex Riley in support, he is quick and was able to score under the posts. Alex had come on for Nathan McQuade who dislocated a shoulder. Alex made another run to create a 2 v 1 for Rob Green to finish. The bonus point won - then Moortown came back at York. Only stout defending keeping them at bay.
Tries Boz Boswell, Will Atkin, Alex Riley, Rob Green, Conversions 2 for the debutant Joel.
