Pocklington vs York (Away)

Readers I am afraid to say that the strangely garbed man turned up again with his satchel in show. We have since discovered that there is nothing useful inside there, and it’s purely a badly misguided fashion statement. Those of you already acquainted with his inappropriate footwear selection will not be surprised by his sartorial faux pas.

Pre-match training again at 9:45, with 16 players turning out. Pocklington has a decent sized squad, and some stocky lads amongst them – it was going to be a challenging morning. By 10:30 we were ready for the off.

York were focused and organised from the start. Some well contested play between the two sides, but after a couple of minutes it was York who took the lead, with Steele passing through to Barney (0-5). Pari made one of his trademark terrific swerving runs, and was unlucky not to put York further ahead. York didn’t have to wait too much longer though, as Barney again scored (0-10). York were really putting Pock under pressure now, and there was a mass scramble close to the Pock try-line, with Oliver finally getting the ball over (0-15). Pari made another great attempt, but was thwarted once again close to the try-line. York were playing some great team rugby in this passage of the game, and used the width of the pitch well; a string of passes down the line and Sam was able to score (0-20). Steele made an easy score to bring the first half to a close (0-25).

The second half saw substantial switching of players for York. Pock got off to the better start and made their first score of the day from the start (5-25). Pock were playing with real determination in this half and put York under a lot of pressure, eventually resulting in another try (10-25). There was then a period of more evenly balanced play, but no further tries.
