A sunny day at the home ground, and a squad of 12 players turned out for the Festival, cheered on by family and friends.

First Game – West Park Leeds.

The opening game for York was a close contest, with both teams seeming a little nervous. The deadlock was broken by Barney towards the end of the first half. No further scores in the second half which came to an abrupt end with a friendly blow to the head for Alex. Final Score York 5-0 West Park Leeds.

Second Game - Bowdon

The Bowden team had travelled from the Manchester area, and weren’t looking to have a wasted journey. There were no scores from either side in the first half though. However, Bowdon took the lead in the second half with a well worked move. York’s character and determination showed through, and was rewarded with a try by Toby P. Final score York 5-5 Bowdon.

Third Game – Sandal.

Another challenging match for York against the always tough Sandal side. Real pressure and good play by York resulted in a well deserved try by Toby H in the first half. Sandal was not to going to give up easily, and managed to equalise in the second half. Final Score York 5-5 Sandal.

York went through to the next stages as the runners up of their Group.

Semi-Final – Otley.

The toughest game so far; a very close fought first half, with some great play from both sides. Otley were the ones to score in the first half. The second half was equally hard fought, but it was Otley who took the opportunities, scoring two more and progressing through to the final. Final Score York 0-15 Otley.

York went on to the 3rd/4th playoffs against Sheffield Tigers (whom they had beaten on the semis at Doncaster a couple of weeks earlier).

3rd/4th Playoffs – Sheffield Tigers.

This was a very close game, with great competition in the scrum and rucks. Fraser made a great run down the touchline, only to be taken into touch before he could score. Some great play by Barney taking the ball to the line, where he was held by a determined Sheffield line; after continued pressure Oliver put the ball over (5-0), and the end of the first half.
Sheffield came back out and continued to work hard, eventually being rewarded with an equaliser. Final Score York 5-5 Sheffield Tigers.

A great team effort by York, and a splendid Festival day.
