Second Game
The second game commenced as a much closer contest, with the first 10 minutes being a terrific tussle between the two teams. Harrogate made the first score (0-5). York came back to level the score as George took a pass and ran down the touchline (5-5); the scores stayed that way until half-time.
The second half was again closely contested, though York increased the pressure and pinned Harrogate closer to their line. Steele made a brilliant interception as Harrogate tried to move the ball along their line and out of danger, resulting in the first score of the half (10-5). A good passage of play by York followed, with some terrific passing culminating in Pari putting over the line (15-5). Sustained pressure by York, and Barney burst through the Harrogate line again (20-5). Toby H got a well deserved try after a morning of real commitment (25-5). A breakaway by Harrogate from their own half looked to be a dead cert, but Steele ran almost half the pitch to make a brilliant tackle and stop the try. A half pitch run by Barney and York had another score (30-5). Barney was instrumental in the next move, as he raced towards the Harrogate line and passed to Will to bring the game to an end with the final try (35-5).
Final score York 35-5 Harrogate.
A great morning’s play from both teams, played with good sportsmanship and spirit.
