First Game
York were clearly up for the game today, and were focused and organised. The first half saw tries from George, Toby P, Josh and then George again (20-0). The York forwards (Joe, Alex, Fraser, Oliver and Will) had good control of the rucks, mauls and line-outs, against a Stirling side with less experience of contested play. This allowed some terrific opportunities for the York backs to display their skills.
The second half saw York continue their fine play and Tom M came on to score two more. Final score York 30-0 Stirling.
Second Game
The Scots were more fired up for the second game, and it was a closer match. However, Steele ran in the first York try (5-0). Stirling came back quickly to equalise (5-5), then scored again to take the lead (5-10). This only served to irritate the “try-machine” Tom M, who promptly put two tries away to retake the lead (15-10) at the close of the first half.
There was a more closely contested second half, with good play by both teams. Toby P scored the only try of this half to extend the York lead. Final score York 20-10 Stirling.
So it was off to the Club House for lunch for the lads, some good natured banter, and a well earned beer for the parents.
The Scots would head “homeward tae think again”
A team-building activity took place on the afternoon, which involved the lads running around shooting each other with lasers, and the parents errr....... having a beer.
Further team-building took place at Otley in the evening as well, with swimming and running around for the lads, and the parents drinking herbals teas and discussing global political issues. It was unfortunate that Joe was not able to attend the evening function, but his father had to go home to wash his hair or something.
