Work is set to start on the exciting new stand at York RUFC in January, which will replace the outdated current stand and make the club fit for the next generation of players and supporters. We are now increasing our fundraising efforts to reach our target.

Our aim is to start the construction work in May so the new Butler-Wood stand will be completed during the close season and ready for the start of 2023/24 and we are asking our supporters, members and businesses to help us make this a reality by getting involved in the project.

The new facility will be accessible to all with an access ramp and a specific area for wheelchair user and will include a range of new facilities including refreshments kiosk for matchdays (hot food and drinks), toilets and storage for rugby kit.

In Memory of Don Butler.

As you may be aware, York RUFC are going ahead with plans to replace the existing Jack M Wood Memorial Stand, built in 1980, and replace it with a new stand suitable for today and the future!

Following the sad death of Don Butler in January 2021, his son James commented that it would be a long lasting gesture to his father to build a new stand. As the club had already decided to replace the existing stand, it was decided that any new building would also mark the contribution that Don made to York RUFC over his 68 years connection to it.

Consequently, the new stand will be named ‘The Wood – Butler Stand’ as a lasting memorial to both Jack M Wood and Don Butler. Design, costing and planning permission work has now been completed with artists impressions shown . The next challenge is to raise the funds to make it happen. We are looking at a build budget of £200,000 which is an ambitious target but one we hope we can achieve with your help.

Any contributions to the building cost would be gratefully received and those friends donating in Don’s memory will be recorded separately on a board in the new stand.

Stand Supporters Club

The Stand Supporters Club is a great way to be a part of making the Wood-Butler stand happen. For a donation of at least £1,000, your name would be on the SSC Board and you will also receive a season ticket for the first season.
There is also a Regular Payment Option - to sign up, you need to set up a regular payment of at least £30 per month for 3 years.
In return your name, or your child’s name, will be added to the Stand Supporters Club board which will take pride of place on the new stand for all to see.

Sponsor A Seat

The new stand will have 150 seats for spectators. We are giving members the opportunity to sponsor a seat. For a donation of £500, your name will be put on a Seat Sponsors Board. You will also receive a season ticket for the first season.

Also available is ‘membership’ of the ‘200 Club’ by giving a donation of £200 and having your name added to the 200 Club Board.
