Playing Highlight: This is difficult. I was fortunate enough to play with some great players so there are many. The promotion game at Bridlington to go into North 1 was an obvious one, or admiring Steve Levett’s consummate handling skills putting a turbo charged Rich Stevenson through the gap on our 22 with a soft, short pass at Old Crossleyans as he got wiped out by his opposite number. But as a front row forward, the highlight that tops them all was completely destroying the Huddersfield pack in a scrum in front of the stand at Clifton Park. Their loose head had to leave the field with a broken ankle immediately after unfortunately but it was a great and legal counter to the illegal intimidation tactics they had been employing prior to this.

Which Opposition Team Do You Remember Most: Sandal. Tough, uncompromising team that could play open attractive rugby right through to the last minute whether it be 1st team or Cavs.

Most Amusing/Off-field Playing Highlight: Watching the proprietor of the B&B in Blackpool (The “Odd Shoes” tour) giving a heartfelt telling off to Gez Baldwin at breakfast for coming in late the night before and waking him up. Gez, who was in the Military Police at the time, stood ramrod straight to attention taking the verbal lashing military style – straight faced, “Yes sir, no sir” whilst wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse ears, one of which had a bite taken out of it. It was hilarious.

Did you actually go to Holland? Err…. Yes. Not one of my fondest memories. Realised that I had left the tour kitty in the hotel safe in Groningen an hour and half into the journey to our next destination and had to spend the remainder of the tour dressed as a Dutch milking maid! At least the money was safe.
