York leave Kendal with ten points scored from forward of the match Fiona Piercy.

A tough determined set of fifteen players gives York plenty of momentum into next week’s next game.
But three opening tries by the home side kept York at bay. After a fumble at the kick-off for Kendal, York were able to apply some pressure by the forwards which led to Fiona Piercy crossing the whitewash in the twenty fourth minute. The conversion went agonisingly wide of the posts from kicker Kira Lewis. Just prior to this though York’s other prop, Kat Feetenby-Gare came close to scoring. I say 'close' because she just got confused between the actual try line and the five-metre line! This was much to the delight of the referee, whose management of the game made it flow with little interference but bags of encouragement for both sides to work off. The half time score of 17-5 meant York were still in for a chance of the spoils.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be as Kendal continued to pick up a string of tries. Then Fiona Piercy came crashing over the line again having hit and taken three of the Kendal girls with her. A truly magnificent moment as the forwards had dominated Kendal at scrum time and were able to disrupt them at the line out throughout the game. However, with many regular starters unable to make the fixture, coach Dave Norman was pleased with their performance and is quoted to say ‘the girls have achieved several aims today none more so than two sterling tries’.

Next week York are on their travels again, this time closer to home with an away game at Wetherby. See you there.
