Sadly, John passed away on April 16th, aged 80, after a period of ill health.

As well as all the success he had as captain of London Welsh, capped 22 times for Wales (captain six times), and the captain of the Lions on their tour to New Zealand in 1971 (they are the only Lions team to win a series in New Zealand), John also had a connection with York RUFC!

Through contact from London Welsh, Club President at the time Hugh Bowman, was able to arrange for John to help with some coaching at the club. Present at the Tuesday and Thursday training sessions and Saturday matchdays, John made a big impression with the squad.
His time at the club ‘coincided’ with the team finishing season 1993/94 as Champions of North Division 2.

Condolences go to his family from all at York RUFC.
