A day of expectation as York turned out a very good side on paper - a blend of youth and experience. The thinking was that this was the day we could turn over the league top performers.

A great start in both attack and defence from York saw us compete. Neil McClure took a penalty for York in kick able distance - he doesn’t miss those. Sadly, our joy dissipated as the Forresters worked the ball wide to their pacey winger and outflanked us. Then, the big influential Wharfedale No 8 was yellow carded and we had an opportunity but we didn’t capitalise on it. Gradually the game moved away from York as the backs of Wharfedale weaved their magic. Tricky back play and speed saw York beaten on the outside on a number of occasions. This resulted in them crossing on five occasions with, three conversions and a penalty goal.

Our opponents eased to a comfortable victory, but make no mistake York gave this class opposition a contest.
