York travel to Blaydon seeking a valuable win

Paul Simpson13 Feb - 08:58

With Toby Atkin reaching 250 caps for York RUFC and Willem Enslin becoming a Centurion

This weekend sees York travelling to Blaydon seeking to continue building the points up with a win against a team that they beat at York earlier in the season at Clifton Park.

With the weather as it is we are expecting some fixture casualties but with the all weather pitch at Blaydon the York game will definitely go ahead. A win will no doubt build pressure on other teams at the lower end of the table.

Of particular note this weekend is a landmark day for two of our outstanding players. Prolific Scrum Half Toby Atkin turns out for his 250th appearance for the 1st XV and No 8 and club stalwart Willem Enslin secures his Centurion tie by making his 100th appearance for the 1st XV. A fantastic achievement for a pair of outstanding players.

Kick off is at 2pm at Swalwell for those making the trip.

For the 2nd XV it is a visit to Hullensians although this fixture is clearly at some risk because of the continued rain and the effect on pitch conditions - as we have experienced at Clifton Park where the Ground staff are having to work miracles.

Finally an honourable mention for the Walking Rugby squad who are travelling early to take part in a game against Blaydon prior to the big match. This is the first away fixture for the squad in what is becoming a fast growing format of the game.

For the Women and Colts it is a rest weekend.
