YORK RUFC laboured to a 25-12 victory over Yorkshire One basement side Glossop at Clifton Park.
The lowly visitors made life difficult for below-par York, with one score separating the sides for a long spell in the second half.
Despite Glossop slowing the ball at every opportunity, York opened up a 10-0 lead with tries by Billy Cakaunitabua and Daz Rutherford.
Glossop scored a converted try from a York error, but Cakaunitabua’s second try gave the hosts some breathing space.
A second try for the visitors was followed by a penalty from Paul Williams to make it 18-12 early in the second half.
The game was in the balance until the last minute, when Williams scuffed a drop goal attempt, which looped up and landed in the 22.
Sam Potrykus swooped to gather the ball and score, and Williams then fared better with the conversion to make it 25-12 to the home side.
