On the final day of the season York travelled to Settle to play North Ribblesdale and came out worthy winners 32 -10.

Right from the kick off when Ribb failed to make the 10 yard line the result of this game was never in doubt. It must be said however that Ribb played no small part in a very entertaining game, and at times they did trouble the York defence. York were in the ascendancy for most of the game and ran in 5 tries, through Adam Bowers, Gareth Singleton, Will Dunlop and 2 by Josh Parker. John Dawes adding 7 points from the boot. Ribb crossed the York line for 2 unconverted tries. The whole team and those that came off the bench today all contributed to a great effort. Notable performance’s from Chris Fox & Daz Rutherford both who carried and offloaded the ball well all day. Gareth Singleton’s 20 yard pass to put George Davies on a 40 yard break was a piece of inspiration. Let’s see more of it next season Gareth. Ben Johnson’s service was excellent and subsequently allowed Liam Hessay to have one of his best games in a York shirt to date. However the accolade of man of the match duly went to Josh Parker, nominated by the Ribb contingent and wholly endorsed by the travelling York supporters. Unfortunately his performance in the bar afterwards was not quite up to his performance on the field. He came a poor 4th (out of 4) in the beer race.

York’s performance today, clearly demonstrated the massive improvement made since the beginning of the season. Their willingness to try and play open expansive rugby is encouraging indeed. We have a young group of players, many of whom have learned much under our new coaching regime. There are extremely encouraging signs for next season with practically all the squad remaining at the club. Well done guys.
