Another win - making nine out nine so far this season & unbeaten in 20 consecutive home games. Match Report by Simon Pickles. Photos by Rob Long.

At three o’clock there was a little blue sky, there was a strong wind blowing from West to East, but it wasn’t too cold! Moortown were visiting to play York. The York team was settled with Tom Williams starting at open-side flanker with Joe Maud at number eight. York had the wind advantage in the first half.

Moortown attacked but knocked the ball on, inside centre Chris Peace passed to Tom Williams who scored York’s first try within five minutes of the kick-off. John Dawes missed the conversion. The visitors were not cowed; their scrum was competing with and in some cases, putting pressure upon the York scrum. After a spell of possession in the York half, winger, Alekaii Robinson chose a good running line from a set-piece ball. He ran straight and upright to score. Daryl Gaunt kicked the conversion to give Moortown the lead.York replied quickly - they had an overlap in the back-line and exploited it. Centre and captain, Sam Forbes ultimately getting on the outside of his man and feeding John Dawes, in the line from full-back, to score. The try was unconverted. From the Moortown re-start Chris Fox caught the ball, advanced and fed his second-row partner, Luke Stockton, who scored. John Dawes kicked an excellent conversion.Moortown responded again. After being awarded a penalty deep within York’s half they chose a scrum. The backs quickly passed the width of the field and Alekaii Robinson got his second try. The conversion was missed. Committed to a strong scrum, Moortown didn’t pick up Joe Maud on the blind-side and he scored York’s bonus point try. The conversion was good. Daryl Gaunt kicked a penalty for Moortown before York scored again. Chris Peace ran intelligently releasing Joe Maud who committed defenders to the tackle before off-loading to winger, Rob Hodges to score. The conversion hit the post and it was 29-15 at half-time.

Only three points were added in a cold and even second half, John Dawes kicked a penalty in the eightieth minute to make the final score 32-15.

Well played to both teams and best wishes to Moortown centre, Hush Tyrell Tohovaka who suffered an injury during the match. York are away at Keighley next week whilst Moortown host Middlesbrough.
