Selby have lost some close matches this season but have also been beaten heavily away from home by some of the stronger teams in the division, notably, Scarborough and Heath. York can consider themselves a strong team in Yorkshire One, currently standing at the top of the table - one point off maximum points.Conditions were excellent, no rain, only a light breeze and a little winter sun. Lewis Hannibal played at number eight for York, Ross White and Tom Williams were the flankers with Shane Goulding playing at twelve (alongside John Dawes at thirteen). Neil McClure returned to the side at full back.

York scored early, a penalty provided them with an attacking line out and hooker, Simon Webster finished an effective drive. John Dawes kicked a sweet conversion. Both teams competed evenly but York’s attacking ball retention earned an un-converted try for winger George Davies. On the opposite wing a few minutes later, Shane Goulding passed to John Dawes who fed Will Atkin to show good balance and run fifty metres to score a try which was converted by Jon Dawes. The tries reflected an organised York attack that make good decisions and involve everyone.Selby replied; they attacked persistently and winger Ashton Dallimore scored in the corner. York were able to pull away again before half time though. They showed variety in attack with scrum half Toby Atkin and prop Steve Johnson making metres in tight areas before fly half Liam Hessay released John Dawes to score York’s bonus point try. Selby are a tough side and they nearly scored again but a forward pass was adjudged. It was 24-5 at half time.

York scored four quick-fire tries as the second half progressed. Second row Luke Stockton got a long distance try, running in from fifty metres; John Dawes then scored after accurate York passing and this was quickly followed by a great run from Lewis Hannibal to score in the corner. Toby Atkin then scored when he took a pass from George Davies and forced his way over the line despite the attention of a Selby defender. Ashton Dallimore got his second try for Selby which he converted himself. Tom Williams nearly got onto the York scoresheet with a strong run to the line but was adjudged to be held up. Josh Parker had come on at half time for the injured Ross White at number eight - picked up the ball at the back of the resulting York scrum and showed good strength to score. Liam Hessay then picked up a misplaced Selby pass and ran in from half way to score. The final York try came from Toby Atkin who took a pass from replacement Ryan Gallacher and scored under the posts. Jon Dawes converted the last three York tries giving a final score of 65-12.
