York were pressuring with strong and pacey running, Enslin and Nixon to the fore. However it was Ilkley who were next to trouble the scorer with a converted try 4 minutes from half time, despite good defensive work from York. Benson missing out for York, referee adjudging no try, however, 2 minutes later Enslin scored a try, from an enterprising quick tap penalty, Ben Johnson adding the extras. Half time.
Ilkley were still looking to extend their lead, but good defence by Benson snuffing out the move. Johnson missing a penalty 10 mins into 2nd half.Ilkley scored their 3rd try, their 13 making a clean break, 7 points. The game went into kicking tennis with, a Nixon chip being kicked back by Ilkley to York’s try line, Nixon making amends a minute later with a try under the posts at the other end, and again Johnson added the extras. Da Jour Vu, this time the Ilkley 12 scored under the post, another 7point. York were not finished and were working hard, this effort rewarded by another Enslin try 4 m in, try unconverted. The game was scrappy, but this could have been down to the fact that both sides were trying so hard. There were performances that players need to be proud of, a good place to build from, it was a gritty game.
