Second game of the 3-way match between Keighley, Ormskirk and York.

Game 2 - Keighley

First Half

York kick-off and chase well, but knock-on. Keighley get the first scrum at their 10m line, which they win. Good play by Keighley, as they take play on up to the York 10m line. Good rucking by York to win the ball back. Andre runs the ball back past half-way, and the ball then comes to Leo, who runs it all the way through from there to open the scoring (0-5); Connor converts (0-7).

Keighley restart with a kick that rolls into touch by the York 10m line. The line-out to York is taken nicely by Fraser; York get a maul going to drive play back to half-way; York get a penalty (Keighley coming in at the side of the maul). Knock-on by York then though, and Keighley get a scrum at half-way, which they win. York win the ball back, and take play into the Keighley half. York penalised (off feet in the ruck), and Keighley kick to the York 10m line. Good tussle by both sides in this period, and it’s Leo who comes away with the ball and runs it to within 5m of the Keighley try-line. Line-out to Keighley 5m out is won by them and they set-up a maul, but the York pack drive them back, rip the ball, and Will K goes over to score (0-12); no conversion.

Keighley restart and Leo catches it. Connor kicks it back to the half-way line. Penalty to Keighley at half-way (York hands in the ruck), which is taken through to the York 10m line. York get the ball and take play deep into Keighley territory again, but can’t get through the defence. Half time.

Second Half (my apologies for the lack of detail here – I was badly distracted by the ridiculous vocals on the touch-line)

The Keighley kick-off for the second half doesn’t go forward 10m, so York get a scrum on half-way which they win. Penalty to Keighley (York off feet in ruck) is kicked deep into the York half. The Keighley line-out is lost with Will K stealing it; the ball is kicked to the Keighley 10m line. York get a line-out, lose it, but win the ball back. Connor kicks deep into the Keighley half, but Keighley bring it back to the York 10m line.

Penalty to York, but it goes straight to Keighley, who run play back to the York 22m line. Tom recovers the ball and kicks it deep into Keighley territory and chases after it. Keighley knock-on.

Play stops whilst some discipline issues are dealt with. Penalty to York, but they can’t make the most of the opportunity and knock-on. Keighley get a scrum about 20m from their try-line, but York win it. Leo comes off the back of the scrum and runs through to score (0-17); Connor converts (0-19).

The rest of the game unfortunately became somewhat disjointed on the field. Both sides looked tired, with a number of infringements, and there were no further scores.

More disappointing was the bad language and dissent from the touch-line home crowd/coaches, which surely does not set any sort of good example for the young lads working hard on the pitch.

Final Score Keighley 0-19 York

York’s two games now finished, it was the turn of Ormskirk to play Keighley.
