U13 Aireborough vs York (Away - Tour)

First Half

York kick-off and chase. Great maul by Aireborough, as they carry the ball from their 22m line to the 10m line; unfortunately they then knock-on and York get the first scrum, which they win. Aireborough recover from the York attack and get a scrum at their 22m line, which they win. Advantage back to York though as Aireborough are penalised for not releasing in the ruck. They decide to run the penalty from the Aireborough 22m line, and Barney nearly gets through, but is tackled. Fraser picks up the ball from the ruck and charges through from 3m out to open the scoring (0-5); no conversion.

Aireborough restart. Steel runs the ball back up the touch-line deep into the Aireborough half, before he is stopped. The ball comes back out of the ruck and Leo takes it across field and into the corner (0-10); Harry converts (0-12).

Aireborough restart. Harry makes a great kick back into Aireborough territory, and the ball bounces into touch at their 22m line. Aireborough lose their line-out. The ball comes to Andre who goes through several defenders and nearly gets through but is stopped a couple of metres out; he offloads nicely to Steele who is in close support, and he makes the score (0-17); no conversion.

Aireborough restart. Aireborough restart. Once again Harry makes a terrific return kick roll into touch at the Aireborough 22m line. Aireborough take the line-out, but York get a penalty soon after, and set off on another attack. Harry once more heavily involved, and passes the ball to Leo and then it comes through to Barney to score (0-22) ; no conversion.

Aireborough restart. For the third time Harry launches a return kick to the Aireborough 22m line; this time it stays in, and York chase it down fast. Good rucking by Aireborough to win the ball back, but York regain it and Andre kicks it deep for Thomas to chase. He collects the ball and is nearly through the defence. Tom is also in the resulting melee and manages to score (0-27); Andre converts (0-29).

Aireborough restart. York forward pass it, so Aireborough get the scrum at the York 15m into York territory, which they win. York ruck it back though, and get play moving forward again. Tom weaves and runs through the Aireborough defence, then makes a beautifully timed pass to Barney who is in close support for him to run through and score (0-34); Tom converts (0-36). Half Time.

Second Half

Some position mixing up by York for the second half, to give players the opportunity to try an alternative perspective.

Aireborough kick-off the second half, but the ball goes all the way through past the try-line. Scrum to York on half-way, which they lose. York get another scrum, which they win, and play moves up to the Aireborough 22m line. York knock-on though, so the next scrum is to Aireborough, which they win, and play moves back into the York half. Line-out to York at their 10m line, but it’s not straight. Aireborough get a scrum at the York 10m line, which they win. York awarded a scrum soon after though, but infringe. Aireborough take the penalty, but York win the ball back around half-way. Matthew runs the ball from there all the way to score (0-41); no conversion.

Aireborough restart. Will K runs it back to the York 22m line, then Leo takes it on back to the half-way line. Scrum to Aireborough on half-way, which they win, but Leo gets it back and runs from there all the way to score (0-46); Ben converts (0-48).

Aireborough restart, and Leo catches it cleanly and runs it back to the York 10m line; ball goes into touch and Aireborough get a line-out; Andre steals it, but Aireborough get it back. Scrum to Aireborough at the York 10m line, which they win, but York get it back. Joe makes a nifty run on the wing, with a nice hand-off to take play to half-way. Scrum to York at half-way is lost. Penalty to Aireborough at the York 10m line and they progress deeper into the York half. Hands in the ruck though by Aireborough, so York ease the pressure with a penalty kick back to touch at half-way. York win their line-out. The last couple of minutes are closely contested by both sides, but with no further score.

Final Score Aireborough 0-48 York

York’s two games now finished, it was the turn of Blyth to play Aireborough.

This was a very close match, but finally ended Blyth 21-22 Aireborough.

All teams then retired to the Club House, when the excellent hosts Blyth had laid on lunch for all the players, and presentations were made.
