Overall another fantastic morning of rugby with both York sides needing to perform at their best to get the results they deserved. Hull Ionian players were a credit to their club and provided us with the stiffest competition of the season …so far. In the first game Wasps attitude an determination in defence was outstanding , with Jake H yet again showing great qualities not only in his positioning but also in his tackling technique. Continuity with ball in hand again ensured plenty of scores throughout the morning.
Wasps vs Hull Ionians 1 vs 1 D (Jake H x1)
Olly - Just to say how proud I was of the boys. The boys were totally knackered at the end of the 1st Hull game because every single one of them gave 100%.
William Webster had a superb game with some crunching tackles and great clearing out as did Freddie Lupton. And I would also just like to thank Jake for just turning up, given he really wasn’t feeling too good. Not only was he superb in attack (as usual), but his defence was absolutely spot on too with a number of try saving tackles. I told him after the Hull game that I had heard he wasn’t well and thanked him for still coming, to which he replied “I couldn’t let the lads down against Hull!”
In all fairness every boy played very well indeed and all deserve recognition.
I’d just like to give a little credit to the Hull boys too. Their players played very well and were very disciplined too- I would echo this no high tackles in the match , great communication and adventure by both sides… as our guest ref said – one of the best games he’s reffed this season ,
Wasps vs Goole 9 vs 0 W

Olly- In the Goole game (which was rather 1-sided), what pleased me the most was the enjoyment and fun the boys had whilst playing. They all played with a massive smile on their face and played wonderfully well as a team.
Spiders vs Hull Ionians 4 vs 2 W
Elias x 1 , Charlie x 2
Miles: Great game – really enjoyed it. Every individual performed today – it was like a cup game.
Miles: I was very pleased with the performance. Everyone stood out as the commitment to the cause was electric. No lost scrums, rucking was low and hard, great clear outs, tackling, space creating, pick and go’s were brilliant and the handling in the backs was sublime. I don’t remember a dropped ball! There is a real sense that the boys are thinking as well as playing at the moment. The communication and support is great.
A couple of daft penalties given away was the only issue. Our defence though throughout was awesome – we protected our line for over 5 mins at one point with a well organised Hull attack relentlessly coming at us.
Spiders vs Goole 6 vs 0 W
Elias x 2 , Charlie H
Credit to Goole, they defended the crash ball well. In the second game they were tired and couldn’t handle Jake H.

Ian Hare, Team Manager’s comments: Just to re-iterate Miles comments about the team performance. No stars on show yesterday for York everyone did their own job 100% which just built the pressure for the guys to get on the end of the ball and score. In the last game against Hull it was like watching adult rugby. Forwards driving and creating space popping passes then when it wide the miss match was clear. Hull are a good team and we had to work really hard to create the miss match. Rucking was top class a massive improvement from previous weeks and no one missed a tackle. Very enjoyable to watch...
